......Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia or Elena Lucrezia Corner, also known in English as Helen Cornaro, was a Venetian philosopher of noble descent. One of the first women to receive an academic degree from a university, in 1678 she became the first woman in the world to receive a Ph.D. degree.
Died: 26 July 1684, Padua, Italy Trending
Born: 5 June 1646, Ca' Loredan
Education: University of Padua
Academic advisors: Carlo Rinaldini (philosophy); Felice Rotondi (theology)
Parents: Zanetta Boni, Giovanni Battista Cornaro-Piscopia
I imagine she came under some controversy, in her day. A woman with a brain and a degree. How unheard of, in 1678.
How many women have fallen through the net and have not been celebrated for the things that they have achieved. Eons of celebrating men for achievement and we are only just recognising women for lifelong dedication to achievement and acclaim. That's Patriarchy, for you.
